The Texas Rangers were upset after Fernando Tatis, Jr. clubbed a grand slam on a 3-0 pitch late in the San Diego Padres' 14-4 win on Monday night.

Tatis also drew the ire of Jayce Tingler, who had given him the take sign in his own return to Texas.

"He's young, a free spirit and focused and all those things," Tingler said. "That's the last thing that we'll ever take away. It's a learning opportunity, and that's it. He'll grow from it."

The Padres had a seven-run lead in the eighth inning. It was his second home run of the game and his first career grand slam.

The Rangers showed their displeasure by throwing the next pitch behind Manny Machado.

"I didn't like it, personally," Chris Woodward said. "But, like I said, the norms are being challenged on a daily basis. So just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's not right. I don't think we liked it as a group."
