Former NFL quarterback Christian Hackenberg is attempting a comeback to professional sports as a pitcher.

"Simple as I can put it: I just want to compete, man," Hackenberg said. "I've kind of had my trials and tribulations with the NFL, and had success and had that roller-coaster ride. At the end of the day, I'm sitting here at 25. For me ... I feel like I've got a lot left in the tank."

A second-round pick of the New York Jets in 2016, he reportedly throws a 90 mph fastball as a right-hander.

Hackenberg played baseball at the Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. In high school, in 25 2/3 innings, he struck out 33 batters, with 40 walks, five HBPs and a 7.36 ERA.
