Players often compete over the winter to sharpen their skills for the next season. Major League veteran Erubiel Durazo was just looking for a job.
Durazo found one after taking the Mexican Pacific League by storm. The 33-year-old DH/first baseman hit .344 with 18 home runs and 56 RBIs during the regular season for Naranjeros de Hermosillo, convincing the A's to sign the player who GM Billy Beane once referred to as his "Holy Grail."
Durazo did not slow down much in the playoffs, hitting .295 with a .413 on-base percentage, two home runs and 12 RBIs in 61 at-bats. He'll need to keep his bat hot in Spring Training if he's going to earn a slot on the Oakland bench.
