Shohei Ohtani won't be ready to pitch in the Major Leagues until at least mid-May, according to Billy Eppler.

Ohtani is recovering from elbow and knee surgeries.

After having Tommy John surgery in October 2018, Ohtani contributed to the Los Angeles Angels in 2019 as a designated hitter. He then had season-ending surgery last September to address a rare condition in his left knee.

"The knee surgery pushed back his rehab and his throwing progression to complete the Tommy John rehab protocol," Eppler said. "So we're targeting about a mid-May return on the mound. He will be able to begin the season as a DH, pending no other unforeseen things happening."
