The Tampa Bay Rays hit four home runs, including a pair of solo shots from Yandy Diaz, to beat the Oakland Athletics 5-1 in the American League Wild Card Game on Wednesday night.

Diaz appeared in just one game for the Rays over the final 10 weeks of the regular season. Charlie Morton earned the win, pitching five innings and striking out four. He allowed five hits and three walks.

The A's recorded eight hits, but managed to push just one run across. Ramon Laureano hit a sacrifice fly to right in the third inning, scoring Marcus Semien.

In addition to Diaz, Avisail Garcia and Tommy Pham homered for the Rays.

Tampa Bay had the lowest payroll in Major League Baseball this season at $66.4 million. They'll face the Houston Astros in the ALDS beginning on Friday afternoon.

Oakland has now lost nine straight winner-take-all games since 2000, including a 1-15 run with a chance to move on in the playoffs. They lost last year's Wild Card Game to the New York Yankees.
