John Sterling has missed just two games since taking over as the play-by-play announcer for the New York Yankees in 1989.

That streak will come to an end this weekend. Sterling missed two games during his first season.

Sterling has been feeling run down and will take a breather this weekend when the Yankees play a four-game series at Tampa Bay beginning Thursday.

Ryan Ruocco will fill in for Sterling, who will get more than a week off with the All-Star break next week.

Sterling has worked 5,059 consecutive Yankees games, including the postseason, according to the team.

"My program director felt it'd be a good time to take some time off," he said.
