David Wells is back for another year. The 43-year-old Wells, who said he was going to retire after the 2006 season, signed a one-year contract with the Padres on Tuesday. A native of San Diego, Wells was a combined 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA in 13 starts between the Red Sox and Padres last season. He was acquired from the Red Sox on August 31 for minor league catcher George Kottaras and went 1-2 with a 3.49 ERA in five starts for San Diego.
