The Tampa Bay Rays and Blake Snell have agreed to a five-year, $50 million contract extension.

Snell was the AL Cy Young in 2018, finishing the season with a 1.89 ERA and a 21-5 record.

Snell's deal beats the previous records for players with less than three years of service in both total value and average value. Snell was not arbitration eligible as a player with two-plus years of service, either.

Tampa Bay will keep Snell for one projected free-agent season.
