Major League Baseball and the MLBPA are nearing an agreement that could eliminate the August waiver trades, creating a single trade deadline on July 31.

The changes could be implemented in 2019 if the two sides announce an agreement as soon as Thursday.

MLB is hoping a single deadline will help incentivize teams to be more aggressive in the offseason knowing that trades in August are no longer an option.

The two sides are also nearing an agreement on an All-Star Game Election Day. Fans would vote online for All-Star starters, and the top three vote-getters will take part in a one-day election.
