Both Gerrit Cole and Max Scherzer are on pace to break Pedro Martinez's Major League record for strikeout rate over a full season.

Martinez set the mark in 1999 with a 37.5% strikeout rate.

Cole (40.8%) and Scherzer (40.4%) are on pace to shatter the mark.

Both pitchers have made nine starts, roughly one-third of their season. Chris Sale could flirt with the record as well. He's at 34.9% this season after posting a 36.2% strikeout rate last season, which currently ranks third historically.
