As the Arizona Diamondbacks prepare for Opening Day, they've sent Yasmany Tomas to the minor leagues.

Tomas, 27, was signed to a six-year, $68.5 million deal out of Cuba prior to the 2015 season. He is still owed $46 million over the course of the next three seasons in the back-loaded deal.

After two decent seasons, he hit just .241/.294/.464 in 180 plate appearances last season.

Steven Souza, projected to be in the lineup, will start the season on the DL, but the Diamondbacks still felt no need to keep Tomas at the Major League level.
