If the MLB goes to 32 teams with expansion, they could eliminate the current two league structure and instead have four eight-team divisions.

East: Atlanta, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Miami, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay and Washington.

North: Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, Minnesota, Montreal, both New York franchises and Toronto.

Midwest: Both Chicago franchises, Colorado, Houston, Kansas City, Milwaukee, St. Louis and Texas.

West: Anaheim, Arizona, Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle.

The playoffs would consist of the four division winners and four play-in games would advance to the Division Series. A World Series in the future could consist of traditional rivals such as the Yankees against the Red Sox or the Giants versus the Dodgers.

The regular season would also be reduced to 156 games with 24 total games against the eight teams in each of the three other divisions and 12 games against each of the seven divisional opponents. The format would allow for an off day every week.
