Mike Trout began a Single-A rehab assignment on Wednesday.

Trout has been sidelined since he tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb at the end of May, resulting in surgery.

The Los Angeles Angels have gone 17-18 without Trout and sit just 2.5 games out of a playoff spot.

Trout, who served as the designated hitter for Class A Inland Empire, went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
