In a brief phone interview Friday managing general partner Peter Magowan made it clear the negotiators between the Giants and Barry Bonds have a long ways to go before becomming finalized. "There are substantial issues that need to be resolved, important issues, and I think both sides are working constructively to resolve them," Magowan said. "But until they are resolved, there is no deal." Asked specifically if there was a chance the whole thing could dissolve, placing Bonds back in the free-agent market, Magowan said, "I'm not saying that. I'm just saying what I said: Until the issues are resolved, there is no deal." Bonds' agent, Jeff Borris, did not immediately return a phone call. He had said he thought it would take several weeks to formalize a contract.
