The Giants are thought to be entertaining offers for second baseman Ray Durham, who, despite being injury-prone, could provide a contender with a solid switch-hitting bat. Durham holds a $7 million player option for 2006. His departure could provide the Giants financial flexibility. Durham, however, prefers to remain a Giant.
"I want to stay here because I think we have the talent in this room where we can do something," he said. "I want to play out my contract here. If they have other plans, that's out of my control."
