Brian Cashman plans to pick up the Yankees' option on Gary Sheffield and then trade him away to the Angels, Orioles, Cubs, Giants, Astros or Rangers, who are all in the market for a power-hitting corner outfielder. One GM admitted to having called Cashman last week about Sheffield. "To be honest," he said, "I was kind of put off, leaving me to believe he's got at least a couple of teams really pushing him hard (for Sheffield)." Some of Sheffield's $13 million salary is deferred, which makes him a very attractive commodity.
