The Houston Astros have agreed to a $1.5 million bonus with fifth-round pick Jacob Nix.

Nix, the No. 136 pick, received a bonus much larger than the $370,500 slot value for his draft position.

The high school right-hander thought he was destined for UCLA after sliding to the fifth round, and was "really surprised we were able to get it done."

Houston saved a lot of money towards their draft spending limit by agreeing to a deal with No. 1 overall pick Brady Aiken that was about $1,422,000 below the slot value.
