CBS 2 has learned from the FAA that the plane that crashed into the 50-story high-rise in Manhattan was registered to New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle.
The AP is reporting that Lidle was on the airplane and at least four people were killed.
Lidle began his MLB career as a replacement player in 1995.
"The whole plane has a parachute on it," Lidle said recently. "Ninety-nine percent of pilots that go up never have engine failure, and the 1 percent that do usually land it. But if you're up in the air and something goes wrong, you pull that parachute, and the whole plane goes down slowly."
Lidle was a very vocal player in his career and openly criticized Barry Bonds this past May.
"I don't want to see him break records. If he breaks them, it will be a shame, because I think when all is said and done, the truth will come out. It hasn't yet, but I think if he was in front of a jury, and there had to be a verdict, I think the verdict might be -- with everything that I heard was in [Game of Shadows] -- I think the verdict might be guilty."
