Lastings Milledge and Ricky Ledee and left-handed reliever Royce Ring would not be active for the first round of the playoffs.
Milledge, the Mets' top prospect, hit .241 in 56 games in his rookie season after making his Major League debut in May when right fielder Xavier Nady underwent an emergency appendectomy. The 21-year-old Milledge was at the center of a mild controversy over the weekend, when a note that read, "Know your place, rook," was taped to his locker in Washington. He said the message referred to "a misunderstanding" with a teammate while the Mets were in Atlanta last week.
