In San Francisco, the U.S. Attorney's office said yesterday that a blockbuster Los Angeles Times story naming five players in the infamous Jason Grimsley affidavit, "these reports contain significant inaccuracies." What those inaccuracies were, they wouldn't say, but the clear implication from U.S. Attorney Kevin Ryan is that the issue was with the names listed in the story. Officials declined to say how many names or which names might be inaccurate. Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Miguel Tejada, Brian Roberts and Jay Gibbons were listed in the story as players Grimsley named during an interview with federal agents. L.A. Times sports editor Randy Harvey, reached by The News today, said that unless the paper is informed of the "significant errors they claim we made, we have no comment, except to say we stand by our story."
