Vladimir Guerrero has decided to officially retire from the game of baseball, according to Hector Gomez of Dominican outlet Listin Diario.

"I decided to announce my retirement due to my desire to spend more time with my family," Guerrero said in Spanish, "as well as because of the two operations that I've had on my right knee."

Guerrero finishes with a line of .318/.379/.553 over more than 9,000 plate appearances. He was the American League MVP in 2004 and tallied 449 home runs.
