The Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers held extensive discussions involving Howie Kendrick prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, according sources.

The Angels proposed a deal that included one of the Dodgers' top pitching prospects -- Double-A right-hander Zach Lee, according to sources. The two Los Angeles clubs haven't completed a trade since 1976.

Kendrick can block a trade to 12 teams, but the Dodgers are not one of them.

The Dodgers could resume talks for Kendrick this offseason.
