The Red Sox have agreed in principle with Dustin Pedroia on a contract extension, pending a physical.

The new deal begins in 2015 and runs through the 2021 season. It will pay Pedroia an average of $14 million per season. He is currently playing on a six-year, $40.5 million contract that runs through 2014.

It is essentially $100 million over seven years.

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com was the first to report the agreement.
