With several key players ailing, the Yankees will receive a boost Monday when outfielder Hideki Matsui returns as the American League East leaders visit the Orioles.
Matsui fractured his wrist on May 11 against the Red Sox while attempting to make a diving catch on a low line drive off the bat of Mark Loretta in the first inning. He underwent surgery the next day, as his professional streak of consecutive games played ended at 1,768.
