Andy Pettitte, who has walked away from baseball before, is pitching under a one-year contract with the Yankees at 40.

He'll have to make a decision on whether or not to extend his career once again after the 2013 season. This time, longtime teammate Mariano Rivera will be home with his family.

"It's been a special run that we've all been on here—me, him, and Derek [Jeter]," Pettitte said. "In a sense I feel like it's a run that should all end close together."

The left-hander then paused.

"Then, yet, I'm not going to stop playing until I know that I'm done," Pettitte said. "I guess I can answer that two ways.

"It's just weird—it's like saying, do you think you could see yourself around here without Derek and Mo? Well, no, not really," he said. "But then you think, well, Jorge's out, he'll be out two years this year. The game goes on. Life goes on."
