When they were suddenly flush with cash, the Dodgers acquired Hanley Ramirez from the Marlins in July and Adrian Gonzalez from the Red Sox in August.

As it turns out, Ramirez and Gonzalez were two players that Los Angeles coveted last April.

The Dodgers were calling the Marlins about Ramirez in early June. Once they landed the shortstop, they began working on getting Gonzalez from the Red Sox.
