Omar Vizquel, who retired this past season after a 24-year career, has been hired by the Angels as their new roving infield instructor.

Vizquel was a three-time All-Star and 11-time Gold Glove winner.

He played 2,709 games at shortstop, the most in major league history, and recorded 2,877 hits.

"It's a great presence that he brings," Jerry Dipoto said, "and it comes from his accomplishments -- a long career that we believe culminates in the Hall of Fame. We're thrilled to have him."
