David Ortiz is happy that the Bobby Valentine Era lasted just one season in Boston.

"It seems like everybody but us knew what Bobby was going to turn out into," Ortiz said. "When you hear people talking about him right now, it’s just like, 'Oh, I knew it was going to be like that.' I guess that was one of those mistakes, not having the right people around. But the good thing is they pretty much tried to correct that from the very beginning, getting John (Farrell), a new manager, and making things better."

Ortiz seemed to be as close to an ally as Valentine had on the roster until the then-manager questioned the slugger's desire to play.

"Yeah, I think I did," Ortiz said when asked if he felt burned by Valentine.

"Otherwise, ask Bobby. Every year you learn in baseball that you deal with different people, different things happen. But you can't just be part of the good side always because sometimes it comes back to haunt you."
