The twelve-player trade that the Marlins and Blue Jays agreed on Tuesday night, which could be completed as early as Wednesday, saw Miami shed a significant amount of payroll.
The Marlins will send Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, Emilio Bonifacio and John Buck to the Blue Jays for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Jeff Mathis, Justin Nicolino, Anthony DeSclafani and Jake Marisnick.
By agreeing to the trade, Miami will shed $175 million in payroll.
