The Cardinals have removed Jaime Garcia from their NLDS roster after an MRI revealed a strain in the pitcher's left shoulder.

Garcia is hoping to avoid surgery and will seek a second medical opinion before deciding on a treatment plan.

St. Louis replaced Garcia on their current roster with rookie Shelby Miller, who will be available to pitch Wednesday in Game 3 at Washington.

Garcia lasted just two innings Monday in Game 2 before being pulled from the contest due to an issue with his arm.
