Major League Baseball investigators traveled to the Dominican Republic to acquire a jar of the product Melky Cabrera led them to believe caused him to fail a drug test.

After acquiring a jar of the substance, it was sent to the World Anti-Doping Agency's testing labs in Utah before discovering weeks later it was only part of an elaborate cover-up by the Giants outfielder.

A team of six to seven investigators from MLB spent several weeks working to uncover the plan, according to a baseball official.

A second baseball official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said additional discipline against Cabrera was unlikely.
