The Red Sox haven't ruled out a return to the bullpen for right-hander Daniel Bard.
Bard is scheduled to start on Sunday night against the Yankees, but forecasted rain could postpone the game.
Boston's pitching has been below average this season, especially in the bullpen with closer Andrew Bailey sidelined due to injury.
"Any changes, whether it's roles or positions, those are things we'll talk about more in time," general manager Ben Cherington said, "but the pitching has to improve."
