The Phillies expect to have Chase Utley on April 5 when they open the season against the Pirates.
Utley has not played in any of the team's eight games this spring and officials will not say when they expect the second baseman to see action.
He has chronic knee tendinitis that must be managed.
As for when Utley will play in a game, general manager Ruben Amaro said that will be a decision made by "the club, the doctors and the player."
