The Yankees got their first real look at Michael Pineda on Monday as he faced the Phillies in an exhibition game.
Pineda, who was acquired in an offseason trade involving Jesus Montero, held Philadelphia to one hit in two shutout innings. He ended his first inning with back-to-back strikeouts of Shane Victorino and Jim Thome.
It was reported over the weekend that Pineda's weight and lack of a third pitch might force the Yankees to keep him out of their starting rotation initially.
