Former Tigers slugger Cecil Fielder, the father of free-agent Prince Fielder, was among those shocked by his son's decision to join Detroit.
"That just shocked me," Cecil Fielder said. "That's crazy. He's gonna come full circle, after he's been there in Detroit most of his young adult life. I think he's comfortable in that place."
Cecil Fielder played from the Tigers from 1990-96, hitting 245 home runs -- including an eye-popping 51 in 1990. Always by his side during his days in Detroit was young Prince.
It was reported late Tuesday that Fielder agreed to a nine-year, $214 million deal with the Tigers.
"I didn't even see Detroit in the picture," Cecil Fielder said. "I didn't even see that happening. I never seen Detroit making a move like this.
"Adding him to what they already have makes them pretty strong."
