Despite an "aggressive offer" from the Indians, free-agent outfielder Carlos Beltran chose the Cardinals on Thursday. Beltran received a two-year, $26 million deal from St. Louis. A source said the Indians made "an aggressive" two-year offer to the switch-hitting Beltran. The money was "very close" to what the Cardinals gave Beltran, but he preferred St. Louis. Cleveland tried to acquire Beltran from the Mets at midseason, but he was dealt to San Francisco.
