The Yankees hope to sign left-hander CC Sabathia to a contract extension before he can opt out of his contract. The organization will meet for two days beginning Wednesday in Tampa, Florida to develop a plan to keep Sabathia, get a new deal finalized for general manager Brian Cashman and map out their offseason. "Their hope is to present Sabathia with an offer he is agreeable with before he opts out," said a source. Sabathia can opt out of the final four years of a contract, which has $92 million remaining. He has three days following the end of the World Series to opt out and become a free agent. Even if he does opt out, the Yankees will still be the favorites to re-sign him.
