The Pirates still have not entirely ruled out the $9.75 million option on the contract of pitcher Paul Maholm for the 2012 season. There was a previous report that Pittsburgh declined the option. The Pirates do not plan on paying Maholm that much next season, but keeping the option in play leaves the door open to using the pitcher in a trade.
