The Yankees would like to retain general manager Brian Cashman after a successful season. "Clearly, we want him back," Yankees president Randy Levine said. Cashman is in the final year of a three-year contract. The team has a policy of waiting until the offseason to negotiate new deals. However, both sides are interested in extending the relationship. "We have a great relationship," Cashman said. "I work for a great owner, but we really haven't talked about the future. Now, is not the time to talk about that, to be quite honest. That's all for another day. They know that I would like to come back and we have a good working relationship, but we'll deal with that stuff on another day." The Yankees swung and missed on Cliff Lee this past winter, but Cashman signed Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia to work in the rotation for cheap contracts.
