The Pirates have set a team record for players used in a season at 52. "That wasn't one we set out to break before the season," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. The previous record, 51, was set last season. "We dealt with adversity well, initially," Hurdle said. "When we ran into some injuries, we were able to go get some people to help. The second wave of injuries, we were still able to patch it together and hold on. Our problem came when the third wave of injuries was the guys that we went and got -- when the [ Chase ] d'Arnauds started going on the DL and the [ Alex ] Presleys started going on the DL."
