The Phillies will be without reliever Jose Contreras for the remainder of the season following surgery. Contreras has been on the disabled list since June because of a strained right forearm and he will have exploratory surgery on his right elbow in the coming days. He had been rehabbing with hopes of rejoining the bullpen for the final month of the regular season, plus the postseason. "It's very disappointing," Contreras said. "I tried to rehab it. I tried different things -- nothing worked. Finally, we made the decision to have surgery. Hopefully I'll come back next year."
