Mark Prior moved a step closer to returning to the Chicago Cubs' rotation, pitching five innings for the Class A Peoria Chiefs on Saturday night.
Prior, on the disabled list all season because of a sore right shoulder, allowed one run and three hits while throwing 59 pitches in the Chiefs' 2-0 loss to Fort Wayne.
The right-hander had five strikeouts and his fastball reached 90 mph at times. He did not walk a batter and threw 43 strikes and 16 balls.
"The goal today was to find my breaking ball and I think I did that in the third inning," Prior said. "I was able to find another gear and work my way out of trouble."
