The Red Sox would love to add Carlos Beltran via a trade with the Mets, but they are wary of paying the price to acquire the outfielder, according to a team source.
New York is seeking top-tier prospects in a trade for Beltran.
Boston also believes that they have more pressing needs with three-fifths of their starting rotation out and reliever Bobby Jenks on the disabled list.
"We're interested in Beltran, but the price would have to be sensible," a Red Sox source said.
"We lost a lot of good prospects for (Adrian) Gonzalez and want to protect our better minor leaguers."
