Rockies left-handed pitching prospect Tyler Matzek is struggling in his second professional season. Matzek is 0-2 with a 14.00 ERA in three starts for Class-A Asheville. In nine innings, the 20-year-old has allowed 14 runs (two home runs) and walked 15 batters. Prior to landing in the South Atlantic League, he pitched for Modesto of the Advanced Class A California League. He went 0-3 with a 9.82 ERA in 10 starts for Modesto. In 33 innings, Matzek walked nine more batters (46) than he struck out (37). Because of that, he allowed 37 runs despite surrendering just 34 hits. The Rockies drafted Matzek with the 11th overall pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Capistrano Valley (Calif.) High School.
