Athletics reliever Brian Fuentes blasted manager Bob Geren following the team's loss on Monday night. Fuentes, who has been Oakland's closer all season, doesn't know what he is currently. "The games in San Francisco were unorthodox managing," he said. "I thought it was a National League thing. But tonight was pretty unbelievable." After Fuentes was handed his seventh loss of the season, tops in the American League, he questioned how Geren has used him recently. Fuentes hasn't had a save situation since May 8, and he entered three straight games with the score tied in extra innings. On Monday, he was summoned in the eighth inning, again with the score tied, 1-1. Fuentes said when the call went to the bullpen and his name was called, "I thought he misspoke. I thought it was some sort of miscommunication." Asked how he thinks Geren has handled him, Fuentes said, "Pretty poorly." How much communication does he have with the manager? "Zero."
