After close to 1,000 votes were tallied, Giants ace Tim Lincecum beat out Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols to win RealGM's 2011 "Be The GM" contest. Lincecum earned 61% of the vote over a four-day period after advancing past Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria, Seattle's Felix Hernandez, Minnesota's Joe Mauer and New York's Robinson Cano to grab a berth in the finals. When we kicked off the tournament on April 1 we asked our readers to vote on star-studded matchups, using each player's value as a franchise cornerstone as a barometer. Therefore, if given the choice RealGM's readers would build their own Major League Baseball franchise around Lincecum. I'm sure the San Francisco right-hander isn't going to add this honor to his resume, if only because his trophy case is already rather full despite the fact that he'll turn just 27 next month. In addition to winning the 2010 World Series with the Giants, Lincecum is a two-time National League Cy Young winner (2008, 2009) and a three-time All-Star (2008-2010). He led the majors in strikeouts in 2008, while topping the NL three years running. As great as he's been, Lincecum is off to a sparkling start in 2010. In 10 starts, he's 4-4 with a 2.06 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. He already has 75 strikeouts (against 24 walks) and a complete game shutout. He'll have to fight off Florida's Josh Johnson and the Philadelphia duo of Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, but a third Cy Young isn't entirely out of the question.
