Irving Picard, the court-appointed trustee redistributing pieces of Bernard Madoff's collapsed Ponzi scheme, claims that Mets ownership holds $300 million in "stolen money." Picard said in court papers that Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz "are holding $300 million in fictitious profits consisting of other people's money, stolen money that they received from Bernard Madoff." Ownership's steep losses have forced them to seek an investor for a percentage of the team. They were investors with Madoff for 25 years. Wilpon and Katz have sought the dismissal of the lawsuit Picard filed against them last December, citing what they say is Picard's misrepresentation of facts.
