The Milwaukee Brewers have opened preliminary talks with slugger Carlos Lee in order to determine whether or not they have any chance of keeping him beyond this season. "The two points that were made was Carlos said he'd like to stay here and we'd like to have him back," Brewers' General Manager Doug Melvin said. "There's a lot between those two statements that has to be solved." Melvin said there was no timeline for beginning negotiations with Lee. He did say the sides agreed to keep talks private once they began. "Carlos has said his focus is to go out there and have a good year, which he's having," Melvin said. "And our focus is to win as many games as we can. We'll go with a gut-feeling type of thing (as to when to begin talks)."
