Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez struggled on Opening Day and the right-hander blamed the performance on a crackled cuticle.
The issue could force him to miss his next scheduled start.
Jimenez said Saturday that he was putting ointment on the cut and taping it up for two days in hopes of avoiding infection and speeding the healing.
Colorado will be cautious with Jimenez, who is scheduled to start against Pittsburgh on Thursday.
