The Red Sox have reacquired backup catcher Doug Mirabelli from the Padres on Monday for catcher Josh Bard, Minor League pitcher Cla Merdith and either a player to be named later or cash considerations. The timing couldn't be better for the Red Sox. Tim Wakefield is pitching for the Red Sox in Monday's clash against the Yankees at Fenway Park and Bard had well-chronicled struggles (10 passed balls) handling Wakefield's knuckleball. The Red Sox traded Mirabelli to the Padres in December for second baseman Mark Loretta. Mirabelli handled Wakefield exclusively from 2002-05 and was widely lauded for how aptly he handled the perplexing pitch.
